Influenced by his aunt Gem Myers a well known Jamaican entertainer, this Jamaican born Los Angelino Mr. Soul Fabulous (aka Keith Campbell) was exposed to the dj scene during the late 80’s. It wasn’t til his move to South Florida in the early 90’s that his curiousity for electronic music grew with his weekend excursions to Miami Beach’s once famous Kitchen Club, where he was introduced the heavy, bass-driven, industrial sounds of Meatbeat Manifesto, Consolidated and 808 State. Soul’s journey into house music took roots 1994, after he was he purchased ‘Mix This Pussy’ compilation by Danny Tenaglia and has blossomed ever since. After jumping between different genres of House and Acid Jazz, it wasn’t until his first meeting with Bran Tappert through a mutual friend where he found his calling in mixing deep soulful and chunky sampled grooves. Soul Fabulous has played for such famous venues like Simon’s in Gainesville, FL, The Edge, Chilli Peppers in Fort Lauderdale. He has opened for DJs Frankie Knuckles, Brian Tappert, King Britt and artists such as Mone’ and M5 featuring Brad Raker. Mr. Soul Fabulous now residing in Southern California is currently producing and remixing tracks for Decibel Records out of Philly/NYC under the moniker of DJ Keith Just and recently GFunked Records across the pond in England. Take note his Deep, Bass-Heavy, Jacked Grooves are sure to keep you pumped.

If you are 30, or older, you might think this is hilarious!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious
diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what
with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning.... Uphill...
Barefoot... BOTH ways… yadda, yadda, yadda

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way I
was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I
had it and how easy they've got it!
But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look
around and notice the youth of today. You've got it soooo easy! I
mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a Utopia!
And I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don't know how good
you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If we wanted to
know something, we had to go to the library and look it up ourselves, in
the card catalog!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter - with
a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it
in the mailbox, and it would take like a week to get there! Stamps were
10 cents!

Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a
matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to
kick my butt! Nowhere was safe!

There were no MP3's or Napsters or iTunes! If you wanted to steal
music, you had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it
yourself!

Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio, and the DJ
would usually talk over the beginning and mess it all up! There were no
CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape
and "eject" it when finished, and then the tape would come undone
rendering it useless. Cause, hey, that's how we rolled, Baby! Dig?

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone
and somebody else called, they got a busy signal, that's it!

There weren't any freakin' cell phones either. If you left the house,
you just didn't make a call or receive one. You actually had to be out
of touch with your "friends". OH MY GOSH !!! Think of the horror... not
being in touch with someone 24/7!!! And then there's TEXTING. Yeah,
right. Please! You kids have no idea how annoying you are.

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had
no idea who it was! It could be your school, your parents, your boss,
your bookie, your drug dealer, the collection agent... you just didn't
know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy PlayStation or Xbox video games with
high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like
'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your screen guy was a little square!
You actually had to use your imagination!!! And there were no multiple
levels or screens, it was just one screen... Forever! And you could
never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and
faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on!
You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off
your butt and walk over to the TV to change the channel!!! NO
REMOTES!!! Oh, no, what's the world coming to?!?!

There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on
Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying? We had to wait ALL WEEK
for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-finks!

And we didn't have microwaves. If we wanted to heat something up, we
had to use the stove! Imagine that!
And our parents told us to stay outside and play... all day long. Oh,
no, no electronics to soothe and comfort. And if you came back
inside... you were doing chores!
And car seats - oh, please! Mom threw you in the back seat and you
hung on. If you were luckily, you got the "safety arm" across the chest
at the last moment if she had to stop suddenly, and if your head hit the
dashboard, well that was your fault for calling "shot gun" in the first
place!
See! That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it
too easy. You're spoiled rotten! You guys wouldn't have lasted five
minutes back in 1980 or any time before!

WOMEN SUPPORTING WOMEN SUPPORTING MOTHER NATURE

The intention of this collaborative, charitable project is to provide a supportive environment for women in the arts and, most importantly, to play an active role in helping our environment. The New Hollywood has created a 2010 calendar highlighting the women of The New Hollywood Womens Goal Group and the calendar was shot by the accomplished celebrity photographer Deborah Anderson. You can view more of her work at www.deborahandersonphoto.com. The concept for the calendar is Art Nouveau and draws inspiration from the illustrations by artist Alphonse Mucha. All proceeds go directly to TreePeople, an environmentally conscious non-profit.

POO POO To Conservation International. What a BIG BIG Disappointment. They pulled out of our charity event that we were trying to raise money for them, our entire event is almost complete. The New Hollywood shot a beautiful calender with an amazing photographer. This organization completely snubbed there nose at us. I guess it shows even when you try to help, some organizations(even people) think they are better then others. I'll defiantly remember that and not recommend them to anyone, ever.

They may get an A on charity tracker, but they get an F for unfriendly two faced folks.

Sooooo Conservation International...POOOOOOOOOOO POOOO to you!!! I now know what the term means, your money is no good here.

The bright side is we will help an organization that is appreciative of peoples efforts and are not fascist pigs. Let the hunt begin, to have an amazing event, for a wonderful cause and to work with an organizations that actually give a damn about the environment!!

This is a short film I was the 1st AD and punching bag on and it will be the last film I 1st AD and be someones punching bag, but it was a great learning experience!!!!

It was a really good story and the cast and the crew except for one was awesome!!!

I was suppossed to get a hat, well that didn't happpen, everyone else got one except for me. Maybe cause the director doesn't like other women!! Oh well!!! My friends produced this piece and acted in it and its worth worth watching!!! I only did this cause they are my friends and thats what this business is about is helping out the people you care about!!!!

Its been super crazy around these woods these days!!! Such amazing things are happening. One thing that is going on is, I am shooting a calender with some of the most amazing people!!! Heres a little information about the group I am a part of, who the gals are and what we are doing!! YEA US!!! :-)

I love to take naps, especially on days, where I have little responsibly!! I was wondering are naps good for you? So I found this article...one of a billion. So, on that note I am going to take a nap on this quite Sunday afternoon!!! :-)

Naps Can Improve Our Memory

It always feels good to come home after a hard day’s work, lay back on the recliner and take a nice hearty nap. Not only do naps feel good, it is great for your brain’s memory according to a recent study. University of Haifa’s Behavior and Brain Research Center conducted a study lead by Professor Avi Karni and Dr. Maria Korman. They found that a daytime nap changes the course of memory formation in the brain for the better.

The study involved 2 groups of participants: one group which took a nap for 1 hour & 30 minutes after learning a specific sequence involving bringing the thumb and forefinger together. The other group stayed awake after the learning process. The research process examined how quickly and accurate the subjects were able to repeat the sequence involving the thumb and forefinger.

What were the results? The group that took an hour and 1/2 nap in the afternoon showed significant improvements in overall memory performance later that evening. The research suggests that a daytime nap enhances the overall level of performance in the brain! After a nights sleep, the subject’s brains were on the same level, but “the group that slept in the afternoon improved much faster than the group that stayed awake,” noted Professor Karni.

A second experiment was conducted as well to verify results. The second study demonstrated that another aspect of memory is definitely accelerated by sleep. It was previously shown that 6-8 hours after completing an effective memory practice session, there can be interference in the neural process of memory consolidation. When one learns or performs a second, different task, one’s brain will not be able to successfully remember the first trained task. The group that took a snooze were able to remember the trained task and the second different task!

There was also a third group of participants in the study that learned a different thumb-to-finger sequence 2 hours after practicing the first task. They were not allowed to take a nap. When the second task was introduced at the beginning of the 6-8 hour period, the second task the group didn’t show any improvement or boosted brain task-performance during the evening or the next day. However, when the fourth group of participants took a 90 minute nap between learning the first set of movements and the second. This group showed a significant improvement in their task-performance the following morning!

“This part of the study demonstrated, for the first time, that daytime sleep can shorten the time “how to” memory becomes immune to interference and forgetting. Instead of 6-8 hours, the brain consolidated the memory during the 90 minute nap,” said Professor Karni. She also said, “That while this study demonstrates that the process of memory consolidation is accelerated during daytime sleep, it is still not clear which mechanisms sleep accelerates in the process.”

What has this study shown me? If you want a good memory, take a snooze during the day! This makes perfect sense to me because when you take a nap your brain shifts down from the beta brainwave pattern to some deep alpha & theta patterns which have been proven to accelerate learning processes and improve long-term memory. Theta waves can literally bind memories in your brain for the long-term, which is really cool.

A note to all students: if you have a big test or examination coming up, remember to keep sleep in proportion with your study time. Rather than staying up all night cramming, it is better to study for a little while and then get some quality sleep because the sleep will help your brain form memories of what you just crammed! When scientists are able to identify these mechanisms, new methods could be used to accelerate the development of memory consolidation. Until these are found, if you need a good memory especially for learning “how to do” something, snooze on it!

I am sending out much love and light to a good friend and acting buddy. Sometimes it is those awful reminders how important life is and not to take it for granted. We are so lucky she is still in our lives and something worse did not happen to her. Please remember to tell the ones you care about that you love them and no matter what, you will always be there for them. Even if you don't like someone, maybe they need a little bit of love too.

I am off to bed, I know I need to think more about what I have been given and how lucky I am. I need to remind myself not to be petty and always be humble and grateful for my gifts, no matter how small.

Why is Change So Hard?
Theories and thoughts about the organizational change process

As one of the directors of the Massachusetts system of state literacy resource centers, I have helped introduce and advance many organizational change initiatives. My office has offered training, technical assistance, political forums, and management round tables to promote and assist the organizational change process. Despite these efforts, good intentions on all sides, and much hard work, many of these initiatives disappeared into programmatic black holes. Programs recognized the need to change and reached out for help, but often got stuck. I was puzzled. What was going on here? Do organizations inherently resist change? To start answering these questions, I investigated the organizational change process as it is experienced in program and staff development. In this article, I will share some of the insights I gained and take you on a journey of ships, seas, winds, and icebergs (and, to be honest, I thought up this iceberg stuff long before the recent release of the movie "Titanic").

What We Know

We know from research on change in schools that resistance to and rejection of change can occur for a variety of reasons (Williams, 1993). William's research has also shown that change efforts need to be a combination of top-down' and bottom-up' strategies, strongly led, and combining pressure to change with the support to do so: support in terms of time, financial resources, and decision-making power.

Rosabeth Moss Kanter (1997) emphasizes that change-friendly organizations are future oriented. They seek to close the gap between current performance and an organization's potential. Change-friendly organizations embrace a learning together' approach characterized by a broad spectrum of participation within the organization and among stakeholders. Change-friendly organizations form networks to exchange knowledge and view differences as opportunities to grow. Their leaders create cultures in which people are challenged to take risks.

What I learned from my research is that the greatest barrier to organizational change has to do with the operating paradigm, or mind set, of the individuals and groups that make up an organization. Organizations are, after all, groups of people connected through common purposes into a systematic form to achieve particular ends (Morgan, 1997). While groups are sets of people small enough for their members to know and interact with one another, organizations are often large and the individuals who work in them only dimly perceive the total organization. Most of the human processes that happen within a formal organization actually take place in small groups, and organizational behavior can be understood by examining the ways of thinking and human processes of those groups (Pfeiffer & Ballew, 1991).

Varieties

Pfeiffer & Ballew (1991) point to the work of Marilyn Ferguson (1980) as useful in understanding the varieties of change. Ferguson classifies change into four types, described here.

1. Change by exception is where we allow exceptions to our beliefs but do not change our beliefs. For example, when we meet someone who does not fit our stereotypes, we classify them as being an exception to the group. The multi-pierced, skateboarding teenager who is polite and well-spoken may conflict with our assumptions about teenagers as rude and inarticulate, so we classify this particular one as an exception' but we do not change our beliefs about teenagers in general.

2. Incremental change is so gradual that it occurs before we become aware of it: usually, a collection of small changes that ultimately alter our belief systems. For example, a teacher may have started using technology with an attitude of resistance and disdain, but gradually changed to a point where technology became an indispensable tool in her practice. The teacher could probably not pinpoint the time where her beliefs about technology changed.

3. Pendulum change is when an extreme point of view is exchanged for its opposite. The hawk turns into a dove, the heathen turns into a religious zealot, or vice versa. Government programs are seen as the solution to social problems and then as having no viable role. Pendulum change ignores the past, ascribing no positive attributes to the previous points of view. The new belief is often as zealously held as the old.

4. Paradigm change is when we step out of the box for a more fundamental rethinking of premises. Discordant information is considered and integrated and new ways of thinking emerge. As Ferguson (1980) points out, it is only paradigm change that promotes transformation, and for transformation, or true organizational change, to occur, the beliefs that control behaviors must undergo the more profound mind set change.

Paradigm

A paradigm is a model of how the world works that permits the holder to interpret and use new information. A paradigm is the general perspective from which we view the world. A paradigm shapes perceptions and practices in nearly unconscious and unquestioned ways. It shapes what we look at, how we look at things, what we label as problems, what problems we decide to address, and what methods we use. It is a way of filtering and making sense of all the information that bombards us daily (Maguire, 1987; Wheatly, 1992). Ten years ago, paradigms were rarely applied to the analysis of organizations. Now, organizations regularly discuss and strategize about shifting paradigms. The idea that organizations can shift their paradigms is extremely powerful. It means that individuals and groups can define how they view and interpret the world around them, and begin organizing behavior around new way of thinking that can significantly transform organizations.

Systems Theory

At this time in history, we seem to be caught between two ways of thinking: analytical, expressed by the machine metaphor, and synthetical, which seeks interconnectedness and wholeness as expressed in metaphors such as webs, fluid mosaics, and rivers. In the analytical way of thinking, the world is seen as a machine. The underlying assumption is that phenomena can best be understood by being broken down, reduced into individual parts, and examined part by part. In this school of thought, the scientific method, objectivity, linear thinking, either-or thinking, and competition are promoted and presumed to be free from values and independent of context.

Synthetical thinking, or systems' thinking, popularized for organizations by Peter Senge (1990) and Meg Wheatley (1992), emphasizes putting things together. In this view, the system as a whole is more than the sum of its parts. Localness, harmony, cooperation, and a sense of mutual dependence are promoted, contextualized in the values and meaning systems of those involved. Systems theory, being about a world view, helps us understand paradigms. Systems theory helps us understand how deeply ingrained assumptions about how the world works shape our habits and minds and our society's organizations and institutions in a continuous process of reinforcement.

In the organizational realm, Morgan (1997), an organizational theorist and consultant, writes that old ways of thinking, represented by the machine concept of the world, are so ingrained in us that they are dif cult to recognize, let alone shake off. They have been the basis for the educational and political structures and social institutions that guide our lives. Therefore, " we get stuck in taken-for-granted ways of thinking and stuck in actions that are inappropriate for dealing with the problems and situations at hand. We operate in narrow, technical concerns, characteristic of the machine age" (p. 277). We are unable to make the transformative organizational changes needed to increase our productivity and address problems creatively.

Three-Pronged Process

Kurt Lewin (1951), the father of organizational development, saw change as a three-pronged process: unfreezing, moving, and refreezing. Unfreezing involves loosening or melting ways of thought, behaviors, or sets of often unconscious behaviors that work against productivity in solving social problems and conflict. Once the ices of thought patterns or behaviors inhibiting productivity are melted, they flow into more natural channels until cooled enough to refreeze in more functional and congruent patterns. The new patterns remain until they are once again challenged by the perception of the need to change again. Lewin's formula for change is elegantly simple but fearsomely difficult to put into practice. Fortunately, Gareth Morgan (1997) has introduced a way to actualize Lewin's concept of the change process.

Imaginization

Morgan, an organizational theorist and consultant, introduced the term and process "imaginization"as a way to break free from habits of the mind and heart into space that allows for acting differently within organizations, to unfreeze, move and refreeze. Morgan sees metaphor as the primary means through which we forge our relationship to the world. According to Morgan, the images we hold of ourselves and the world can either constrain or expand our potential for transformation. By developing an image of an organizational structure, a problem area, or the future, we gain insight into how our organization operates and what it will take to change. Nature supplies many excellent ideas for imaging. For example, we might imagine organization as an ant colony, a spider plan, a river, or a web.

Morgan's ideas about imaginization led me to think about conceiving of an organizational change initiative in which I was deeply involved as ships, seas, winds, and icebergs. This gave me a way to "imagine" what was facilitating and what was inhibiting the adult basic education programs' abilities to engaging in a participatory planning process. It was also a way to understand why programs were having so much difficulty with a seemingly simple process. So come with me on a journey into images. Think of two adult basic education programs, one school-based and one community-based, as sailing ships in the organizational sea of a participatory planning process: cold seas where icebergs are common.

Strong prevailing winds help the programs begin their journey. Fueling these winds are a well thought-out, systematic planning process with a number of useful and practical implementation tools as well as support through training, technical assistance, and dollars allocated for staff time. Other sources of momentum include the professionalization and enhanced confidence of programs as a result of five years of intense program and staff development, and the desire and capacity of the programs to plan and deliver quality services.

The Logistics Iceberg

The two adult basic education ships are sailing the organizational seas of a participatory planning process. They have made it out of the harbor and are sailing along with gusto when the first iceberg appears. It is small and highly visible. This is the logistics iceberg, where the investment of time and resources needed to carry out the planning process is at odds with part-time staff and capricious and multiple funding sources. In this iceberg are found such difficulties as getting day and evening staff together for planning, including night-time staff who have other jobs during the day, and finding time to carry out the process and the action plans because some funders do not provide funds for planning.

The logistics iceberg is not insignificant, but the ships slip around it with creative thinking. The crucial issue is whether a program and its management understand and support the entire planning process. The looming and more hidden icebergs have to do with habit and mind set: the paradigm in which the program and its staff are operating. These are the potentially formidable barriers to implementing a process that presumes teamwork, cooperation, and power sharing for learning together about solving problems and making improvements.

The Way Business is Done

The way business is done, or habit, iceberg contains existing approaches and structures by which the program operates. This iceberg is not highly visible and has deep and jagged edges, which can fatally damage the ships. If the operating norms of a program are ones of isolation, authoritarianism, and mistrust, then the organizational environment will be hostile to a participatory planning process. People in organizations do not organize their behavior around processes introduced from the outside. They organize their behavior around the operating norms that contribute to the culture of the organization. A program in which staff rarely meet or even talk to each other, and in which helping one another is not valued, is not a likely place to use a participatory planning process effectively. Such programs are usually managed by a director whose style is top-down and who has little history of consulting staff about programmatic, funding, and personnel issues. Such directors may act in a highly paternalistic or materialistic manner and are unlikely to share their decision-making power. This type of environment tends to generate mistrust and competition and inhibits the development of skills necessary to work in a cooperate, participatory manner.

Programs that have already been operating in a participatory, collaborative manner, in which staff talk to each other a lot, support each other, and work together, are likely to have receptive organizational cultures. These are usually programs where the director has readily shared information and decision-making power with the staff. Such programs are like ships with special radar. The radar detects the iceberg and steers clear of it. However, the ships now enter dangerous waters that harbor a hidden and treacherous iceberg. Only the most sophisticated radar can detect it hovering deep in the waters, waiting to pierce the bottom of the ship. This is the iceberg of mind set, which embraces the many assumptions, beliefs, and values about how the world works.

The Paradigm Iceberg

The third iceberg, the hardest to detect, is the mind set, or paradigm, iceberg. In this iceberg are the thinking patterns, attitudes, beliefs, and values that underlie the behavior of programs and practitioners. They often come into conflict with the assumptions underlying a process that embraces teamwork, cooperation, power sharing and learning together.

Thinking in terms of processes and systems, working in teams, and vesting power in practitioners throughout an organization are enormously difficult for most people. Most of us have learned to manage by meeting short-term numerical goals. We have not considered the capabilities of the system as a whole or the interrelationship of processes, especially as they relate to overall goals. Teamwork is not commonplace. Collaboration and cooperation are often undervalued and individual achievement championed over that of the group. The skills it takes to function successfully in a team, both as a member and as a leader, are frequently viewed as soft,' having little to do with the real work of getting business done. Most of us are unfamiliar with and unskilled in consensus building, participatory decision-making, and all the other skills needed for teams to function effectively. Our intellectual training has promoted thinking in absolute categories and either-or terms, making us uncomfortable with ambiguity and confrontation. Our lack of skill and discomfort make us reluctant to give up old ways.

Other attitudes and beliefs important to embracing change have to do with what we think about motivation and power. A participatory planning process assumes internal motivation and the capacity of each practitioner to recognize and solve problems. It trusts that the resulting shifts in power will be of benefit to the organization. A deeply ingrained assumption in our culture, however, is that competition is a prime motivator. Just look at our schools' grading systems and assessment tests.

And then there are beliefs about power. The participatory planning process shifts the power in the organization from the top and spreads it throughout the organization. If a director believes there is only a nite amount of power in any given organization, then she is likely to resist letting go of that power. If a director believes that power grows as you give it away, the chances that a participatory planning process can take root are much higher.

One of the programs successfully cleared the first two icebergs but wrecked up' when it encountered the paradigm iceberg. The other program sailed the seas of the participatory planning into a new world of thinking, growing, and doing. This was a change-friendly organization that took risks to reach a vision of what it could be.

So

What does this tell us about the organizational change process? How do we shift to being change-friendly? One way is to develop insight into why so many change efforts fail. We also need to recognize that complex change efforts are just plain hard. Recognizing the paradigm in an organization and the need to change it is big step in an organization's ability to plan and implement change effectively. Significant organizational and management changes may be needed to support the paradigm shift.

Shifting paradigms also helps us recognize that meaningful organizational change needs to be systemic and continuous. And, in change, loss and anxiety emerge around surrendering old and familiar ways. Linking change efforts to issues vital to the organization is one way for staff to see the benefits of the change in areas that have personal meaning for them. This is likely to reduce anxiety, but conflict and anger may erupt out of the stress that true change creates.

The process of organizational change is likely to be bumpy, difficult, and frustrating: a series of two steps forward and one step back. It needs to cut through barriers in our hearts and minds as well as in our organizations. But it does liberate us from addressing problems according to our prior approaches. It moves us from simply tinkering with the system to using our collective brainpower to make a difference in a world. The need to change is our constant companion. It may be hard, but it is always worthwhile.

Slumdog Millionaire

I loved Slumdog Millionaire. I know, I know everyone did. I will admit that when I first watched it a while back, I did not like it. I turned it off after 10 minutes, if that. I also did not like a few other movies this past year, but I realized after I watched Slumdog again, that I have a pattern. If I am in a bad mood, I will not like the movie and if I am in a good mood, it will be the opposite. So the point is, I need to always be in a good mood to watch movies or I won't like it!! Hahahah!!! BUT... I think that is the case in point with so many other things in my life. If I roll out of bed cranky, then the rest of my day goes awful. I let my mood affect the world around me. So, since I am an actor, I can create made up feelings. I need to now apply that to my real life and create a constant positive energy around me!!! Easier said then done, but I am a woman on a mission!!!

This is short and sweeeeeeeet, I hope!!! haha!!! ;-)

I really liked this movie, I think every girl and guy should see it!!! I really had such insight after watching this. Don't get me wrong, I already knew most of this stuff, but a refresher coarse is always good. I will shamefully admit, I have done what some of these guys have done in this movie(I've never been married, so stop thinking that part). So guys, don't think girls are always on the poor me end...just FYI!

I thought it was a fun movie and a great reminder that you have to keep putting yourself out there, before you find that right someone or right several someones(pending on your love style). It is also has a great message that sometimes, it is not about the right one, it is about your own happiness.

I had a brief interaction with some people(males mind you) and we were talking about the best diets(men, diets, it's LA, what do you expect). One that was mentioned was the breakup diet. "The diet", TO GET BACK, your once slimmer, more handsome self. The "I will show them" what they lost out on diet.

Which is really amusing to me, because I have never walked away from any relationship thinking "I'll show you" what you lost. After the sadness, being pissed off and all that other emotional crap and the million runs to In n Out Burger...double double animal style and a strawberry shake(sooo goooooood), I had to step back and think, what I wanted out of my life.

I needed to take a look at myself and figure where I needed to grow. I needed to know how I could be a better person and most of all, be honest about the relationship.

What I found out about dating, heartbreak and all that other emotional crap is that the best revenge is finding true happiness in myself. Realizing what a great person I am inside and out. I am who I am and I can only be me. I cannot pretend to be someone I'm not, especially to make others happy.

With that being said, I have found the best revenge for an ex...not only people you have dated, but friends too. Is to rise to a whole new level of ones self worth. There is nothing sexier then a men or women who has confidence and direction in there life. I can definitely say I have dated people who were not lookers, but wit, charm and confidence out shown what was on the outer shell.

So, this once again, not so short blog, is self confidence is way sexy and always the best revenge. Most of all, remember, just because he or she is not into you, don't forgot there are at least 6,706,993,152(as of July 2008) people on this earth. Think of this too, some people are into animals, so that would make your odds EVEN BETTER...I don't recommend this route, but it does open you options. SO, I am positive that there is always someone for someone, you just might not agree on there dating choices. ;-)

Well, 2009 is underway and I bet you're wondering what on earth you SHOULD do with your career. Perhaps you've been offered countless suggestions about what steps SHOULD take you to the top. Maybe you have a long list of tasks you SHOULD take on to make the most out of your year. Instead of tackling your list of SHOULDS and always heeding the advice of others, what if you only did what you really wanted to do? It might surprise you to learn that what you want is actually in line with your highest good regardless of whether or not that desire matches your long, long list of SHOULDS. Last year, an actress named Bobbi hired me to help her find some motivation. She's a busy person with a lot going on. She's not only an actor, but she's also a writer and stand-up comedian with quite an interesting social life. Needless to say, Bobbi's calendar is a full one.

With such a busy schedule full of appointments and obligations, Bobbi was drained and lacked any passion for her career. Simply put, the girl was overwhelmed and exhausted. With so many projects going on, Bobbi couldn't devote sufficient energy to anything she worked on. She was spread too thin. Bobbi felt like she wasn't good at anything because she couldn't effectively throw her energy in a million and one different directions.

Digging a little deeper, I discovered that Bobbi treated everything she did as an obligation rather than a choice. She believed that she had to work really hard in order to make it. She believed she had to stay super busy every day. If she didn't, somehow that meant she wasn't going to be successful. Bobbi stayed really busy doing the
essential stuff she knew she was supposed to do, but nowhere did she find the time to do what she wanted. She also had a hard time saying no, which wasn't really working for her either. It's no wonder that Bobbi lost steam.

So, I challenged Bobbi to try a little experiment. For two weeks, Bobbi agreed to do only those things she really wanted to do. She agreed to wake up each morning and ask herself, "What do I want to do today?" Her answer would then dictate how she spent her time. This idea made Bobbi pretty nervous. She feared that if left to her
own devices, she'd just stay in bed eating pizza, watching Sex in the City reruns and ignoring her career. But she agreed that her old way of doing things wasn't working, so she'd give it a whirl.

What happened next was pretty cool. Bobbi was right. She did spend close to two full days just hanging out, pigging out, and watching television. She soon grew tired of that, so she dug out an old, unfinished script and began work on it. Over the next few days, she continued to do whatever she wanted and she got tons of stuff done.

Not only did she finish the script, but she also joined an improv group, made some agent calls, ate great food, and got a more flexible day job. Bobbi stopped hanging out with the wrong people, she began attending regular yoga class, and started cooking at home for fun. When Bobbi consciously chose how to spend her time, she realized that her choices were absolutely in line with her highest good.

Owning her choices, she fully enjoyed everything she did free of guilt or obligation. When Bobbi compared her list of obligations to her list of want-to-dos, she discovered that the lists weren't that different. Knowing she could choose her tasks, she was once again in charge of her life. Even when she ate pizza in bed, she loved it and owned that decision as well. Life for Bobbi became fun, productive,
and empowering.

Bobbi felt liberated and in command because her career belonged to her once again. She could indeed do anything she wanted to do and what she really wanted to do was creatively and aggressively pursue her acting and screenwriting career.

What would be different about your career if you only did those things you absolutely wanted to do? How would you approach your to-do list if it only contained tasks you truly desired to take on? How might you feel about your life if you lived each day exactly according to your inner most desires? What would it take to trust yourself
enough to take complete ownership of your choices, your actions, and your results?

Hello peeps in Internet land. It has been quite awhile since I have been on my website. Not being very proactive for many reasons. Honestly, none that are good enough. Just excuses. It is funny that one reason I did not blog, was I felt I had nothing to say. I was supposed to keep a happy medium between the industry I work for, my family and what I really felt. Forever always trying to be the peace keeper and not step on anyone's toes. The funny thing is that is how I live my life never trying to upset anyone. In the end my feelings are hurt and my toes are stepped on.
This year one of my goals is to blog every week. I know blah blah blah...vomit. It will last about a month and that will be it. Well, I am on a mission this time and blogging is on those top 10 goals, along with being bold and taking more chances.
2009 is going to be a great year for change and I am not talking about Obama. Even though this should be an interesting year with him in office and the economic crisis we are in.
Anywho...I am very excited about this year and as soon as my goals are finalized I will be sure to post them. I need to be held accountable!!! :-)

So I just recorded my Voice Over Demo tonight!!! How much fun!! I did so many random characters. It was so funny, because I forgot how many voices I carry in my head. I'm not talking about multiple personalities...just ideas...okay maybe I do have multiple personalities. But whose counting...I'm an artist, it's allowed!!! Hahahahh.

My friend Gabe, who was helping me with my reel was so funny. He could not stop laughing at me. He was laughing so hard he was making me laugh and he had to actually leave the room because he could not stop laughing.

By the end of the session he kept asking me where the hell these people came from.

When I get is back I will for sure put it up online!!!

I think Gabe is more excited about my reel than I am. It's gonna rock!!! :-)

So I wanted to put it out in the world that I have been learning how to edit video for the last few weeks. Dear lord...that is some tuff shiznon!!!! It truly has given me an entirely different perspective on the movie biz.

I knew it took a special kind of talent to be able to edit video...but good god. I can do it for about 30 minutes and then I need to go running, eat or slit my wrist.

I think ever actor should at least try learn the basics of editing. Then I think they will realize when the director says hit your mark, to fringin hit it. NOTHING is worse then seeing a great scene and it being ruined because an actor cannot stay planted in his/her spot.

Anywho...editing is tough, but I commend the peeps that are part of this amazing process and do it soooooooo well!!!!

The last time I went on a "hike" here. I was with my brother!!! That was bad news too. I ended up sitting on some poison oak or ivy. What ever the hell it was...it was not pretty and I looked like I had been attacked by red runts!!! Ooooh...not pretty. My brother was so mad at me cause I could not stop scratching. He was yelling at me and telling me to stop being a baby. Then he realized I got f...ed really hard...I was almost in tears I was so unhappy. I would of done just about anything to crawl out of my skin.

I think the funniest part was us going into the grocery store and I am buying all these drugs and cortizone and just taking it in the store and lathering up. People were looking at me like I was a crazy woman...which I must say is not different from any other day. hahahah

Anywho, I guess that is the quickest way to get someone naked..just not sure how cute they would look with that kind of outbreak, unless your into that kind of stuff!!!!hahahahahah

lost in the mountains

So a friend and I go hiking...well not hiking a nice stroll. I think hikes have back packs and stuff. We had water and starbucks. I know, very LA.

So we head to the designated trail and along the way we got distracted by another trail. 2.1 miles. Being the geniuses that we are, decided to take the trail that we've never been on.

Some might think that's a good. But, Yvonne and Char together leads to craziness. So we are walking and walking and walking. Yvonne falls on her ass...I get to laugh at her. We talk about why there is a heliport or a go cart track in the middle of nowhere. Then we try to climb on some random tree and get stuck. Don't ask...I don't know why.

Then how ever many hours later we end up by some houses and being chased by big ass dogs with cones on there heads.

Okay so I am exaggerating about the chasing of the dogs...but they were barking and hanging on top of the wall and we had to run by as fast as we could. It was really scary...but I am not sure if I was more scared of the dogs barking or Yvonne screaming...Two silly girls we are.

So we finally get to the main road and talk to a postman. Who I must say was not very helpful. I think he was stoned...but you did not hear that from me. Anywho, he informed us that we were two miles away from where we had parked. How the hell did we do that.

Dear lord...our 45 minute hike turned into a round trip from LA to New York.

It was pretty funny. Soooo the moral is the story...Yvonne and Char should not be in the woods without supervision!!! hahahh...Who am I kidding Yvonne and Char need supervision all the time!!

Of course we will be hiking again!!! :-) Wish us luck!!!

Sorry I have been MIA on this thing!! I know only a week or two, but it feels like forever!! I took the last few weeks off to be a normal person!! NO auditions, no
e-mails, fan mail or making my bed!!

That's right...I said it...no making my bed. It was great!! But now that I am all rested I am ready to take on the world again. I am ready to hit the grind.

So the last 6 months I had some challenges I took on. The first one was to get my website done...tada...I did.

I also wanted to organize my room, start marketing myself, and the list goes on.

I accomplished all 10 of my goals. Which I am so proud of.

The next 6 months I am setting the bar a bit higher. I am looking for a manager. Not any ol manager...but someone who believes in me a tenth of what I do and we will take over this biz like 50 cent. hahahah!! okay...that way lame, but you get the point.

I am going to book a 5 and under in a CSI TV show and a co-star in a feature film.

These are just a few of my 6 months goals.

Oh yea... I also made a promise to have more fun. So darn it...I am going to have more fun!!! Yea baby!!

Part of the more fun is I am going to a Russian nightclub. Why you ask...why not. Actually, a friend of mine is Russian and he a DJ. He keeps telling me how crazy the Russians are and I have to party with them. So I am taking the crazy plunge tomorrow nite and live it up. Well as much as someone can, who has to be to work at 5am the next day!!! hahhahhah!!

So wish me luck!! It should be a ton of fun!!! I am stepping out of my box!!! :-)

1) SAG's effort to torpedo AFTRA's contract… has raised new questions about the guild's own strategy for negotiating a deal on behalf of its 122,000 members. The sparring between the two unions has emerged as a major distraction in talks between studios and SAG, which have slowed to a crawl. They broke off after only 2 1/2 hours Friday.

2) [SAG] Committee members from New York and other regional branches openly criticized their own leaders' plans to defeat the AFTRA accord, calling it a waste of guild money and likely to fail. The campaign could cost as much as $150,000.

3) "I've never heard of a dual membership situation where one union is saying to vote down the contract of another," said Al Latham, a Los Angeles labor attorney and adjunct faculty member at USC's Law School.

4) "The studios are going to see that [SAG's] position is weakened by the infighting, and that will make it more difficult for them to achieve the increases they want," said David Smith, a labor economist at Pepperdine University.

1) In Hollywood, the hangover from the writers' strike - which shut down almost all film and TV production for about 100 days - is still intense. The strike took a toll on the California economy, according to a report issued this month by the Milken Institute, a Santa Monica, Calif., economic think tank. The report estimated the state would lose about $2.1 billion in output as well as 37,000 jobs by the end of the year.

2) "Even if the actors strike doesn't happen, there is already an economic impact going on which is currently affecting production schedules," says an author of the study, Milken Institute economist Kevin Klowden. "Even a smaller strike would slow down the recovery."

3) As of last week, the Actors Fund had provided over $1.2 million to nearly 800 people since the beginning of the writers' strike. Typically the fund budgets $200,000 a year in Los Angeles for such emergency outlays. Calls to the organization have doubled as people report trouble finding work, said fund official Keith McNutt.

4) Olivia Burnette, an actress who has guest-starred on shows including "CSI: NY," lost her SAG health insurance as well as her agent during the writers' strike. She has since begun going to auditions again and has found new representation, but fears a new strike would be "potentially devastating." "This business is about getting the role, and just as you start going, to get completely thrown out of work again would be really, really bad," Ms. Burnette says.

1) With the town's patience running thin, the majors have taken the gloves off and accused the Screen Actors Guild of deliberately stalling at the bargaining table. Thursday afternoon's angry proclamation - which accused SAG leaders of lying and wasting the congloms' time - came after guild president Alan Rosenberg asserted that he was skeptical that SAG would reach an agreement before its feature-primetime pact expires on June 30. That assessment fired up the congloms, which had previously maintained a far less confrontational tone when complaining about SAG's go-slow approach.

2) "We are frustrated and discouraged that on June 12, with 18 days left in the month, SAG's Hollywood leadership is already saying that it's unlikely a deal will be made by June 30," the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers said in an unusually blunt and lengthy statement. "We hope that (Rosenberg's) statement does not signal the intention of SAG's Hollywood leaders to bring our industry to a halt. We remain committed to working as hard as we can to reach our fifth labor agreement of 2008 by June 30."

3) Rosenberg and SAG national exec director Doug Allen have blamed the lack of progress on rival thesp union AFTRA… But the AMPTP declared Thursday that it is SAG's fault that the negotiations are stalled, and…that SAG has spent most of its time campaigning against the AFTRA pact.

4) "We remain committed to making a fair and reasonable agreement before the June 30 deadline and are pushing ahead despite the rallies, meetings and events to which SAG's Hollywood leadership has recently devoted considerable time and energy (often during hours that are usually reserved for negotiations)," the majors said. "SAG's inability to close this deal has already put the industry into another de facto strike, limiting the greenlighting of features and disrupting pilot production."

1) The WGA rank-and-file was unified on the strike front, but that does not appear to be the case with SAG. Many industry insiders believe it would be a risky move for the guild to take a vote because it would be next to impossible to get the 75 percent strike authorization vote it needs.

2) Members' reluctance to vote for a strike is in part a reaction to the financial toll of the three-month writers' strike, which ended in February. Other factors are Hollywood's overall weariness with labor strife and the divisiveness within SAG's ranks, which surfaced after its leadership urged members of its fellow actors' union, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), to reject their tentative agreement.

2) "Ever since SAG's Hollywood leadership launched its distracting campaign against AFTRA, SAG's negotiators have quite clearly been stalling for time, trying to run out the clock while SAG tried to defeat AFTRA's new contract," AMPTP spokesman Jesse Hiestand said.
"There is no mystery about what is going on here."

What every working performer NEEDS TO know ABOUT THE2008 AFTRA PRIMETIME TELEVISION CONTRACT

GET THE REAL FACTS. Don't be fooled by SPIN.

The new primetime television contract hammered out by the AFTRA Primetime Negotiating Committee is not only a good deal–it is the best deal that anyone will get this year. That's why the working actors on the negotiating committee–all of whom are dual AFTRA and SAG cardholders–joined the singers, dancers, and stunt people who served alongside them in unanimously recommending that you VOTE YES TO RATIFY the 2008 AFTRA Primetime Television Contract (Exhibit A). It's easy for the Screen Actors Guild to claim that our deal isn't good enough and that it can do better. But does anyone–including SAG's own leadership–have any idea of exactly how SAG intends to get more from the studios than the Writers Guild, the Directors Guild, and AFTRA all got? The fact is that actions speak louder than words–and so far SAG has achieved nothing.

Don't be fooled by spin. AFTRA, like the WGA and DGA before it, has negotiated a great agreement that delivers substantial improvements in wages and working conditions for all its members. We've done this in the midst of a challenging economic climate, at a moment of rapid and unsettling technological change, in an industry that is still recovering from the economic devastation of a 100-day strike. This is a time for tough-minded realism, not posturing and empty rhetoric. If you vote against ratifying the AFTRA deal, you are essentially voting for chaos in the Industry. Don't be fooled by the spin.Spin: AFTRA achieved no significant gains for "middle-class" actors.FACT: AFTRA won solid improvements in the new agreement not only for working actors but for ALL categories of performers.

• Increases base pay for all categories by more than 10%. • Increases Major Role performers' minimums by nearly 13%. • Increases Schedule B & C weekly breakpoints by $250. • More than triples base pay for series regulars on the CW. • Mandates that base pay for Singers on the CW tracks the Exhibit A rate, rather than the syndicated "program fee." • Restores the Health & Retirement coverage that warm-up performers lost when AFTRA's prime time contract was synchronized with the SAG TV agreement in 2005. • Increases hazard pay for dancers—and for the first time, acknowledges that dancing on stony or hard surfaces may be hazardous, an issue we have fought for over a number of years.Spin: AFTRA gave up significant jurisdiction in New Media.FACT: AFTRA secured union jurisdiction in New Media.

Under the last three SAG and AFTRA contracts, the producers did not acknowledge union jurisdiction for programs made for New Media: they had the power to decide whether or not to cover a "made for Internet program," regardless of its budget, regardless of whether it employed union members, and regardless of whether it was a "derivative" or an "original" production. The new AFTRA primetime agreement takes this power away from the producers. It confirms jurisdiction over "made for New Media" programs, building on the structure established by the WGA and the DGA in their new contracts and in AFTRA's recently ratified 2008 Network Code agreement. Under our new agreement, all derivative productions and all original productions over certain budget thresholds must be covered shows. (The thresholds are $15,000/minute or $300,000/program or $500,000/series, whichever is lowest.) What's more, all original programs below those budget thresholds come under union jurisdiction if they employ a single "covered performer"–a term we succeeded in defining so broadly that full union coverage will be triggered for all but the tiniest low-budget productions that use only amateurs. In those limited exceptions, the rules that AFTRA and SAG have lived with for the past seven years will continue to apply.

Spin: AFTRA abandoned residuals in New Media.FACT: AFTRA won its members the right to be paid residuals for New Media.

Currently there is NO agreed upon residual formula for either AFTRA or SAG when traditional TV programs are re-used in New Media. (The only exception is in the narrow area of Internet-delivered consumer video rentals.) Moreover, the existing AFTRA and SAG contracts leave it up to performers to work out their own individual deals for reuse of programs made for new media. The new AFTRA contract turns all this around, Following the pattern set by the WGA and DGA in their agreements, it establishes rate structures for ad-supported streaming, paid downloads, and New Media rentals, guaranteeing that performers will receive residuals when TV programs on which they've appeared are re-used in new media. For programs made directly for new media, performers no longer have to accept a complete "buy-out," Instead, the new contract establishes residuals rates for both derivative and original programs as well as for New Media programs that are reused in traditional media.Spin: AFTRA did not protect actors on clip consentFACT: AFTRA preserved its members' right to consent.Despite enormous opposition from the Industry, AFTRA preserved performers' longstanding right to grant or withhold consent for the use of non-promotional excerpts in New Media: • Library product (programs produced before July 1, 2008): Producers must bargain for consent to use non-promotional excerpts in New Media the same way they do for traditional media. AFTRA did agree to work with the producers to develop a more efficient system for doing this. But whatever we come up with, it will still be completely up to the performer to grant or withhold consent. • New product (programs produced on or after July 1, 2008): The AFTRA negotiating committee stood fast in resisting the employers' demand that there be no consent requirement for clips from new product. Instead, we forced them to accept a proposal similar to one announced by SAG on May 6, under which employers would bargain for consent individually with performers at the time of initial employment. AFTRA's proposal was actually a bit tougher than SAG's, stipulating that no negotiation at the time of initial employment can include consent to use nude photography, to use an excerpt as a commercial or advertisement, or to use bloopers. AFTRA also protected the performer's legal right to sue and collect damages for any excerpt use that could defame a performer or violate his or her rights of privacy or publicity.Spin: Commercials will disappear because there's no product integration language in the AFTRA agreement.FACT: There are more commercials than ever on broadcast television–including on the shows where you find the most product placement and integration.

Producers are counting on product integration to provide them with a badly needed additional revenue stream. The idea that they would permit it to replace commercials is pure fantasy: the Industry depends on commercial revenue for its survival. AFTRA reserved its rights on this issue during negotiations because we believe the current contract already gives us the power to protect members against product integration abuses.

Spin: AFTRA did not advance background performer proposals.FACT: AFTRA achieved solid gains for background actors–and not for the first time.

AFTRA has been fighting hard to win back the union jobs that background actors lost in 2005 when our primetime contract was made to conform to the SAG TV agreement. To this end, our new contract raises the "cap" in Los Angeles from 19 to 20. In addition, it raises the base rate for background actors by more than 10% over the life of the contract.

Spin: AFTRA did not negotiate Force Majeure.FACT: AFTRA did NOT allow the employers to cut Force Majeure out of the contract.

SAG has a significant number of outstanding force majeure claims; AFTRA has only two. This issue was important to us and before we began our negotiations with the employers, SAG informed us it placed great value on its claims. As a result, the AFTRA negotiating committee refused to agree to any changes in the force majeure provision proposed by the producers. At the same time, not wanting to inadvertently make any statements during negotiations that might undermine any legal theory SAG might employ to make its case, AFTRA limited discussion of force majeure and instead took a "most favored nations" position on this issue–meaning that AFTRA will accept whatever changes SAG manages to negotiate in the current force majeure language and whatever outcome it achieves in its pending litigation.Spin: AFTRA gave up on DVD gains.FACT: AFTRA pursued this claim, but like the DGA and WGA, we were unable to achieve it.In their negotiations earlier this year with both the WGA and the DGA, the studios made it clear that the proposal to increase DVD residuals was a non-starter.

Against this backdrop, AFTRA recognized it made sense to focus its energies elsewhere. The priority in this negotiation was working performers: getting the biggest possible improvements in the base rates that affect everyone. Given the significant gains we achieved for performers in this contract, the working men and women on the negotiating committee concluded that it made no sense to shut down the Industry over this issue at this time.

Spin: AFTRA withdrew its mileage proposal.FACT: We all agree this is a desired proposal, but we felt it was more important to increase base salaries and minimums.

Raising the mileage rate is a good idea, though it doesn't solve the real problem: gas prices in America are out of control. In any case, following the priorities mandated by the membership, the negotiating committee saw it was more important to increase base salaries and minimums than to divert money into an increased mileage reimbursement. The fact is that mileage reimbursements are paid only when someone is required to drive on a job–and a performer who is required to use a car can take a tax deduction on the difference between the contractual reimbursement rate and the IRS rate.

Spin: AFTRA didn't negotiate a Most Favored Nations clause in its contract–unlike the WGA, which did.FACT: AFTRA did not get a Most Favored Nations Clause–and neither did any other union in their negotiations with the AMPTP this year.

This is an e-mail I received today. I thought it was interesting. As you may know or may not know there are several actor unions. Two of them are AFTRA and SAG. To work in film and television you need to be a part of both. Unfortunately, we are at a time where the marriage is not working. Not only because the unions have very different ideas, but because of the state of our ever changing environment with the media. It really is hard to say what will come of any union, moreless any actor.

To really survive in this game you have to be able to do more then just act. Ones needs to be an entrepenure. Just because you have a pretty face and you can say some lines that someone else wrote down doesn't mean you should get a shit load of money. So many of our founding artist did it all, to make there dreams a reality. These days actors are more concerned if they have Prada shoes and a gucci bag or whatever is hot at the moment.

But those Prada shoes sell more when someone with a name is caught wearing them.

An actor...a walking...talking...billboard...?????

I am not saying that actors are being treated fair... sometimes we do get the short end of the stick.

I think before we can complain what about we want. We need to step back and figure out what we can do to get back the public interest in the craft and not who we slept with last week or which studio executive is getting another million dollar pay raise.

But what do I know...I am just another name on a Union list trying to get work. I have no room to complain about making more money, when I can't even get a consistent paying acting job. But, I have to stand by my unions because they know best.

What will happen when our unions make us choose between them? What do we do then? Divorces can be ugly and this is going to get nasty.

The Unions have a tough road to protect our interest...it is not an easy battle and I wish them much luck.

Hi there,

I attended the SAG Townhall meeting last night.

Two things to mention. It's now very clear to me that we need to vote NO on the AFTRA contract and that those in agreement need to spread the word from LA to NY to Chicago by sending an email out to 10 actor friends.

The AFTRA deal is not good enough for many of the reasons> already stated and by voting NO we force AFTRA back to the table with SAG to jointly negotiate with the AMPTP. Also, it became very clear to me during the meeting that if the AFTRA contract does go through (and there's a good chance it will because the national and local economy is in such bad shape and people are hurting) we have several options for responding to AFTRA's hostile move and the SAG leaders hinted at this> last night:

* Strike (although there's a high probability that we> may not get a SAG> strike authorization for the same economic reason stated> above);

* Enforce Rule 1 that refuses to let SAG actors participate> on an AFTRA contract that undercuts our contract (they weren't able to elaborate but it was clear that they're looking into this legal possibility); and finally --> and just the pondering of this option makes me so very happy; * All dual cardholders walk away from AFTRA. This would pull 44,000 members out of AFTRA and put an end to AFTRA's ability to ever be able to have SAG actors work on any AFTRA television contract. We could then> finally have a 'merger' of sorts but by means of a> hostile takeover of all of their on-camera work, including possibly all daytime soap actors. This> would allow SAG to finally have a true 'actors union' that looks out for its members and has incredibly unified bargaining power. Existing shows (like> Nip/Tuck) would run their course but the AMPTP would not be able to use any SAG actors under a new contract negotiated with AFTRA. (Who do you think> would win that battle?)

I got the impression from the overwhelming majority of SAG members in attendance, as well as the> leadership, that this is a serious possibility under consideration. Again, they couldn't go into great detail for obvious legal reasons but it was clear to me that this is 'on the table.' So start spreading the word about this option so we can get the possibility into people's noggins! One thing we all need to keep in mind and spread the word> about is that this> current contract negotiation is really about whether the middle class actor continues to exist or not. If we don't get a deal NOW we'll never be able to continue to make a living at this in the future. I have a> friend who is a VP and lobbyist for Unilever (see > <http://www.unilever.com/)>> http://www.unilever.com/).

They own products like Lipton, Dove, Sunlight, Hellman's, Pond's, Wish-bone, etc. I had dinner with him recently and he told me that Unilever has completely eliminated their on-camera commercial budget. They're just not going to spend any money to advertise on TV any longer. It's not effective for them. New media will be the only way from now on that they'll be doing any and all product advertising. He also told me that corporations, media conglomerations and advertising companies are well aware that network television will cease to exist within 5 years. NBC will become <http://nbc.com/> NBC.com and ABC will become <http://abc.com/ ABC.com and all television will be streamed into our homes over the Internet. That not only means no primetime re-runs (they're few and far between now as it is) but it also means that originally filmed series for network will all become web-based. And if we don't have something strong in place now, no sunset clause is going to help.

I am soooooooo stoked!!! Tomorrow morning I leave for Las Vegas!!! No not to gamble and get strippers, but to hang out with my family and buy a new car!!!

I am sooooooooooooo excited!!! A little nervous due to the fact the economy sucks!!! But none the less, I will have a vehicle that is reliable, fun and really cute!!! Just like me!!! hahahahh!!!

So I have been doing some major cleansing in my life. In all forms...my room, diet, spiritual all that good stuff.

In this cleansing I found some poems/songs I had written years ago when I first moved to LA.

I'm not much of a writer, but I used to be in a band. The band was called Similar Species. I was the hype girl/rapper. Needless to say I was not very good and it did not last very long. Hence why I am still acting and not rapping!! hahaha!!

So I thought I would share some ramblings of a girl trying to make her futile attempt on the music industry. Most of them are incomplete and quite of a few them a rather depressing. Maybe I could of been a folk singer...that is if I could sing. hahah!!

My friends that cause me frustrations!!!

Yesterday, I went to work at 530 am, then I went to my friends play at 2pm, then another friends comedy show at 6pm and then I went to a birthday party. A person of sound mind, body and soul would say..."WOW Char, you really were a good friend today" BUT to one person I was not a good friend...why you ask...because I did not make their show today. So basically 3 out of 4 things is not that bad, unless you are friends with some of the crack heads I know, then it was not good enough.

The person show I did not make only ran 4 days...all nights...I worked, except for tonight and since time was not on my side...I only made 3 out of 4 things... I am still the bad guy...of course.

Tuesday, another friend has a showcase, her showcase is also on Wednesday afternoon...I can't make either one. Tuesday, I have prior plans that I committed to weeks ago and Wednesday I work. To the normal, sane person who does not live in LA that would make perfect sense, but not to the crazies in LA LA land.

I am not making up some excuse why I can't attend. It has nothing to do that I may have a life and other friends and those other friends may have asked me to do something.

I am sooooooooo tired of hearing its a good show, you should come see it, but you only have one night to see it and if you don't see it your not a good friend. BULLSHIT!!!

It is soooooooo frustrating when you want to be there to support but there are ONLY so many hours in a day. Until I get a clone or come into a large amount of money at least 50 hours a week is committed to my job, 10 hours to the gym, 35 hours(or less) to sleep the rest to all things called acting/driving around in LA traffic.

I guess with all this rant and raving...people...that last person that should ever be given a hard time is the person who is always trying to support. You give them a hard enough time they won't support, more less leave you a myspace comment.

A person can only handle so much "support" of other people when they are made to feel like they are being guilted to going, instead of wanting to be there because you care about the person and their dreams.

I love being the friend that always goes out to see my friends shows and cheer them on. It is a great honor to be able to be supportive...but do not make me feel guilty because I cannot be there when you beck and call...last I checked I was not a dog.

I love my friends...but some of them are CRAZY...but I still love them!!!

spring cleaning

I have been totally spring cleaning my room. I have kept various things for some reason or another since I have moved out to LA.

For example the Agents/Managers directors of 2002, Your first year in Hollywood, for goodness sake I even have a cookbook from Better Homes. You may say to yourself whats wrong with that...well whats wrong with that, is it is the New Junior Cook Book. I think I have had that book since I was in elementary school. Do I really need to know how to make Fruit Lover's Pops. Either way, its not like I can't go online and look up the recipe if I cannot figure it out. I realize I am the biggest Guber ever, but really a cookbook for 7 year olds. It has to go.

So here is my mission...to clean my room...I would say apartment, but along with so many other actors in LA. Your room doubles as a sleeping area, work area, meditation area, storage area and whatever else you can cram into your tiny lil space because we never know when we are gonna need that sombrero for an audition.

Yes!! That is my life as a creative person. Always tyring to justify why I need those ugly lime green pants. You never know when you are gonna go out on some really bad 80's remake and you need that rock'n outfit. Rational...probably not...but in my head, it sure is.

Soooooo...in my cleanings...I found some notebooks. Who knew I still had those things. Besides some random writings I found some poems and songs.

Let me back track...I used to be in a band. We were called Similar Species. It was very short lived and something I can laugh at now. Especially since I do not sing or dance. You do the math.

Anywho, it was fascinating to look at the random writing I had found. It made me wonder is this how I felt or what was I trying to get across. I don't think I ever showed anyone. So it has been sitting there for years collecting dust.

I also found a screen play. A friend of mine and I worked on, we did not get very far. We got stuck on how to write it, busy with life and well to this day it is uncompleted. I guess I gave it the old college try.

I am trying to decided to keep or get rid of all the cook books I own...but never find the time to actually cook. Or should I keep the Raw food diet, Atkins, fat flush and blah blah blah. I am always on some crazy diet...it is really hard to try to look fantabulos when you have to have a million jobs just to be able to have a career in this town. So I end up doing a ton of dieting. Okay...its not dieting...its a way of life or some crap like that!! hahah!!!

Anyways, the point is, I am am totally cleaning out my room. I am getting rid of all those things that I am finally ready to part with!!! I will admit, I am not ready to get rid of my pink power ranger!!! :-)

Frisbee Golf

Today was awesome!!!! I spent my Sunday morning/afternoon playing Frisbee Golf. I was a total guber laughing at my friend. He was stretching and warming up and I pretty much half assed the warm up. I was like are you kidding me...I have to stretch to throw around a Frisbee.

Whatever!!

So...about hole 5...my elbow hurt sooooo bad. I only made it to hole 9 and had to stop. I felt like someone had kicked me in the elbow. I think I may need to ice it down. I have learned a valuable lesson...do not and I repeat do not laugh at someone when they tell you to stretch.

Needless to say, I sucked pretty bad. For everyone of his throws I had about 45...I used to be athletic...not really sure what happened.

So if anyone finds my athletism please return it...I have no place calling myself an athlete.

Anywho...I truly recommend that you try it...also what a great pic up spot...I saw more boys in one place then I think at any bar in LA!!! Girlllllllllsss...frisbeeeeeeeeee golf is where you will find your husband!!! hahahahha!!

I am for sure going to try this sport again!!! :-)

What can I say about this past week...it was extremely difficult. Good, but difficult. What do I mean by that?

Well, I'll tell you. :-) I have been driving the same car for almost 8 years. I have been living in the same apartment with the same roommate for almost 7 years. I have been in the same acting class and the same job for the last 6 1/2 years.

Along the way I have had a few random side jobs, workshops and also interchanging bad influences/habits.

Otherwise I am a pretty consistent person...Driven. I try not to have too many random disturbances in my life, so I can focus on why I am out here. That is to Act. Don't get me wrong I have had plenty of fun along the way, but I like my personal life to be drama free. I prefer to be around people who do not take up too much unnecessary head space.

That is all about to change.

A few weeks ago, I was talking to my acting coach about my frustrations with not auditioning enough. I informed him that I mail out my headshots to casting directors, production weekly, for goodness sake I even have a service that sends out my headshots. The reality is for every 1000 headshots I send out, I go out on about 3 auditions. That does not included electronic submissions, postcards or what my agency sends me out on.

My acting coach then proceeds to give me the definition of insanity..."when you keep doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result".

That was not the answer I was looking for...which I am sure was written all over my face.

He then told me I should just walk into casting director offices and see what happens.

That also, was not the answer I was looking for. I could not walk into their offices, was he crazy. I would never work in this town again. I am going to piss some casting director off and then that is the end of me. I thought about it for a minute and realized, I'm not getting called into these high profile casting offices anyways. So what difference does it make, if I walk into their offices or not.

This conversation, along with many other random things going on not only in my head but in my life...that I needed a change. Not a new hair cut/color change, but I'm going sky dying naked change. I need a series of changes in my life.

As I mentioned in my earlier blog, I need a new car. That means a car payment. I have not had a car payment in about 3 years. With the lack of acting bookings that pay, work being extremely slow because of the economy and the side gigs not coming as readily as I would like... I need to make cuts in my life.

So I have 3 options 1)beg mom and dad for money, 2) Start hooking or 3) Start making cut backs

I decided on option on 2...JUST KIDDING!!! Of course...I have to start making cut backs!!!

I first decided, that I would stop spending the insane amount of money on stamps that I do every week. I keep the post office in business and that is no joke. Each mailing cost me at least 80 cents a pop and I mail out about 200 headshots a week. You do the math. Of course that does not include the price of headshots, paper with resume, staples, labels or the envelopes. Not including that I was spending around 20 hours a week working on the mailings.

I then decided to drop out of my acting class. That was one of the hardest things I have had to do in a really long time. I think that was even harder then leaving a message to my ex boyfriend that I was breaking up with him. I KNOWWWW... it was pretty crappy to leave a message, but that is a whole other story.

I have been in that class forever. I have learned everything about acting from Joe Palese. He is the reason I am the actor I am today. I have truly grown not only as an actor, but as a person. I have learned about why I do the things I do and can identify why others do what they do. But I have been in there for over 6 years. Will I go back, yes it is a strong possibility. Not now...not until I can reassess my game plan, not only as an actor, but as a person.

I am at a point in my life where I have gone full speed ahead for almost 7 years. I have not stopped to "smell the roses". I am ready to work, pay my insane amount of debt off and truly enjoy the craft again. I don't like feeling that my dream has become a job and not fun. Being in "Hollywood" is truly an honor. To live, play and help the rest of the world escape reality is the greatest career ever. To be able to see the world through others eyes is one of the greatest experiences one could have.

Does that mean I am not going to act? Of course not, it just means that I am not going to feel guilty for not being in a class, taking a casting director workshop or not going to some networking party where 200 other actresses are trying to get some directors attention to be in their next movie.

I am going to start to focus on me and my wants and not worry that I may not get my Oscar by the time I'm 30. It will be there when I'm 31!! tehe!!! :-)

The reality is I have tried to make a road map on this business of how "Hollywood" works. Whats makes you a star and whats makes you just another person waiting tables or bartending in this town. I have always compared being an artist as someone who is trying to become a doctor. You have to put in many many many years to become a doctor. 8 years of schooling alone and then residency and a series of other schooling(one of my best friends is a doctor)...the only difference with artist...there is no road map. No one gives you a piece of paper and lets you know when you have completed all these tasks you get to be let through those pearly studio gates. Then you get to drive beemers, have a house on the hill, 20 million dollar checks and your star on Hollywood Boulevard.

You don't get a yellow brick road, but a blind fold. You just hope and prey that all the wandering around in the dark pays off.

Before I start...I went to McDonald's for a nice healthily dinner at 1030 at night. I ordered small fries, double cheeseburger, and an ice cream cone. There ice cream cones are the shiznaaat(really good, just in case you did not know)!!! Any who, I did not get the double cheeseburger , but instead they gave me the McChicken. It was pretty good...I would def eat it again!!! Don't tell my trainer that I ate Mc D's he would kill me!! hahahahh!!

Anyways, the past couple of months or more, have been out of character for me. I have been keeping things veryyyyy low key. Staying in and doing the whole zen thing...being one with the universe...blah blah blah.

After months of staying low key, I started to crawl out of my skin. So, to stir some things up, I took on some side jobs with the lounge and other random projects. Needless to say my life has become a little more hectic.

But the most amazing opportunities have started to come my way, especially since I have stopped focusing all my time and energy on this crazy dream called acting. Meetings/auditions have been coming more frequent, I have also had a long list of misadventures that have been amazing...a little tiring but all in all the same it has been awesome!!

The other day I had an amazing opportunity to work with my friend Omar Adam(his website is on my friend links) and some other friends of mine. I helped them lock down the Bridge where I work to shoot a pilot presentation for FX. While all this went down, Omar gave me a producer credit. I also ended up doing the catering and got thrown in for the first AD role.

I had the most amazing time running around and helping put this creative project together. It was more then just me, but all of us.

Today on the other hand I shot with my friend Julie Rose in a short film called The Towers Celler. It was weird, because I live and breath acting. I have 3 fake Oscars in my room, a vision board with an Oscar, Tony and an Emmy...with of course the dresses I would wear when I won each award. I have my whole career mapped out.

But, being behind the camera never crossed my mind, but today I was not excited about the acting. I felt that it was another day in the office. It was a really scary thought, that everything I have worked so hard for may be for not...

I think what it comes down to is I need to start doing my own projects instead of waiting for other people to tell me I am worthy of being in their projects!!!

It was Julie from the short...she said the director and crew were stoked on how well I did tonight. So that is always good to know...

mmmhhhh...

So the conclusion is I need to get my butt off the floor and stop spending hours stuffing headshots and resumes, but get out there and be creative and make my own projects. So I gotta get that ball rolling!!!

OK, on that note I have to get to bed...another really looooooong day!!!! :-) 4am comes real quick!!!

I am finally breaking my bloggin fears and jumping into this craziness. A little insight on all things about me. haha...it might not be insight but maybe some ramblings of another artist trying to make their dreams come true in this crazy town called LA!!!

1)I am extremely clumsy
2)If it is breakable...I can break it
3)I seem to trip over thin air...just the other day I fell in a pot hole on my to a meeting with a casting director(it is pretty sad...my roommate tells me its endearing...not so sure about that one)
4)Most people would say I am one of the most loyal/helpful people you will ever meet...just keep me away from breakables. tehe!!!
5)I am not only an actress out in good ol' LA LA land, but I live to pursue the dream by also working for a hotel, promoting a bar(called bridge..come check it out...really cute!!!), catering to the "Stars", cast reality TV and whatever odd jobs a girl can do(Legally)to continue to pursue her dreams to become an ISB(International Super B**tch). I'll explain my theory on ISB at a later date!!!

Which all leads to my current state...my car.

I drive(and hold your horses, you'll be sooooooooooo impressed..NOT)a Chevy Caviller. Her name is Nasturtium. She is 8 years old and has been to hell and back for me. She is finally throwing in the towel and is down for the count.

Being the good mom that I am, I keep taking her to Dave, my mechanic. He really is the nicest and most honest guy a girl could ask for.

Any who the point is, in the last month, I have had to take her in 3 times. Today is the fourth...Uggg...I am soooooo sure you know what a pain that can be. I really need to take the time to look for a new car. My poor baby is not working again and I think it is the alternator this time.

Anyone want to give me a new car? HAHA!!! :-) So the search is on for what my new ride will be. The dilemma of a hybrid, especially with gas prices. The cost, down payment and all the other great stuff that goes along with it.

So if you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Alrighty, I have to bounce. The tow truck is here...thank goodness for AAA!!!!
